Saturday 19 June 2021 from 9.30 pm, Corpi sul palco – the festival of artistic performances in theater conceived, curated and conducted by the artist Andrea Contin and produced by Teatro Linguaggicreativi in Milan – continues its journey and returns to the stage to present Corpi (non) sul palco – Bodies (not) on stage, opening night of the Risveglio di periferia festival in the open-air amphitheater of the Edi Barrio’s Theater, in the heart of the Barona district of Milan. Five international artists will present their performances, staged in different European suburbs and screened live on the Festival stage.
For Corpi (not) on stage Meris Angioletti will be connected from the park of Bois de Vincennes, outskirts of Paris, Teresa Antignani from the thermoelectric power station of Presenzano, in the province of Caserta, Sasha Kurmaz from the outskirts of Kiev, in Ukraine, Jabulani Maseko, South African artist da Mação in Portugal and Riiko Sakkinen, Finnish artist from Pepino, a small village in the heart of Spain. The evening will be closed by the DJ FOQG DJ set, online from Basel in Switzerland, which will last until midnight, curfew time.
After the two soldout evenings of the first edition staged at Teatro Linguaggicreativi in Milan in 2019 and the success of the online event Corpi sul palco – Bodies on stage in full lockdown, which was followed by the important exhibition at MMSU – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, Croatia as an event of Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture, today Corpi sul palco returns with Corpi (non) sul palco – Bodies (not) on stage to participate in the Festival Awakeing of the suburbs, an open-air review of theater, music, perfomance and poetry slam to be held at Barrio’s in Barona, southern outskirts of Milan, from 19 to 28 June 2021, as a symbolic act of cultural rebirth when theaters and live performances begin to resume their activity. On the opening night of Saturday 19 June, Bodies (not) on stage will reflect on the theme of the Festival – the peripheries of the present world – thanks to an unprecedented format that mixes space, time and action by showing the artists with the most realistic scenography for the audience only. , which will see them screened live.
The invited artists, unable to travel to perform live at the Festival, were in fact asked to think in full freedom of expression about an action that takes place on the edge of the place where they live, wherever it is. The action will be resumed in live streaming with simple means such as a smartphone and screened live on the stage of the open-air amphitheater of the Barrio’s, the same stage from which Andrea Contin, curator of the event, will present the evening for the present audience.
From the Bois de Vincennes, a park on the outskirts of Paris that housed the building of the University of Vincennes which was destroyed in 1980, Meris Angioletti will pay homage to the philosopher Gilles Deleuze, who taught here since 1968, making and translating a short extract from the Cinéma course into Italian / Image-movement guided by means of a headset by the voice of the actor Robert Cantarella. A voice that, heard, translated and repeated in real time, becomes an oral transmission like fairy tales and myths.
Teresa Antignani will share with us a civil action, part of the Martyrion project developed with the photographer Sara Terracciano, transmitting from the construction site of a thermoelectric site still under construction in Presenzano, in the province of Caserta, a difficult place from a social and environmental point of view, political, institutional and civil. A presence to underline and denounce an unheard drama.
Sasha Kurmaz will be connected from the outskirts of Kiev, Ukraine, where during the pandemic the number of young drug addicts has grown a lot together with the availability of synthetic drugs that “freeze” the consumer in strange positions so that, walking through the streets of Kiev, it is It is possible to come across strange and disturbing “living sculptures”, a denunciation and simulacrum of the degradation of a society.
Jabulani Maseko, a South African artist who will connect from Mação in Portugal, will recount in an intense reading the nostalgia for his place of origin, Alexandra, a municipality on the outskirts of Johannesburg, embodying it in the figure of his grandmother and connecting with key figures from his South African past.
Riiko Sakkinen, a Finnish artist who has been living for years in Pepino, a small village in the heart of Spain, will play as her practice with critical irony, provocation and intervention as a means to address socio-political and economic issues, playing on the extended time of the pandemic with the focus on a very particular pet.
The evening will end with the DJ set by DJ FOQG from Basel in Switzerland, which will accompany the audience until curfew time with its Afro-Arab electronic dance Music.
